So
I pick up my parents Sunday night at 9 and my mom informs me that we
would be going to LA the next morning on a buying trip and to be ready
at 7. I was excited, it's not exactly the worst thing to have to do
but it was such short notice. It was like reality TV, I didn't have
any laundry etc. done so I had to pull it together quick. My mom is
really spontaneous so I've grown used to it though, keeps me on my
toes. We got out early as we were driving (to be able to take things
home) and even brought Andy our standard poodle along.
Going
on buying trips are interesting. The Los Angeles fashion district probably
brings up a glamorous image of crisp buildings with glossy windows and
designer clothing. It's a little, okay a lot, far from that though.
You see, it's in downtown LA in a very poor area. We were driving
around looking for a place to park and I was so scared. Physically it
looked just like the flea market I went to in Paris, very dirty with
tons and tons of vendors and also lots of gyro stands and Chinese
food. There were hundreds of people in the street but we weaved our way through to where we needed to go. Once you get to the right areas, you are instantly impressed by the fashion!
Luckily
we found a parking spot on the street and right in front of the perfect
stores to find clothes and accessories for our new boutique! Thankfully I was well-versed after having
been in Paris and was able to make excellent choices in clothing. I
was exhausted by the end and the car is stuffed.
